Privacy protection

Hi there!  It’s Donna and thank you for allowing me to come into your inbox.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to my tip on privacy protection.

Privacy protection

We are constantly striving to protect ourselves from scams and scammers, but most of all we need to ensure that our privacy, confidentiality, and independence are kept safe from prying eyes and those who thrive on destroying our right to these precious commodities.

Applying for a credit card

once you have made up your mind which credit card you would like to apply for; next you need to find which bank issues said card.  Then you should go to said bank and ask for assistance to complete the application form.  It is always best for you to do it this way so that you do not need to depend on someone else to assist you with the hard copy form.

If you choose to do it the online way, then chances are that you would run into challenges with websites that are not very user friendly.

You could also apply for your card using the phone banking way.  However, you need to take the necessary precautions to ensure your privacy when your credit card confirmation letter arrives in the mail.

This letter will contain your credit card number and your 3 digit security code along with your expiry date.  Take this letter to your closest bank and ask staff to read this to you and copy it down in a format that you can read.  Keep this letter safe and do not forget to sign your credit card.  Sign it in front of a bank staff member to be safe.

Paying at a restaurant

Okay, you have just enjoyed a sumptuous and delicious meal and now it is time to pay.

You can pay either by cash and if so just make sure that you keep your wallet out of sight as you remove your cash.

or you can use the good old Credit card or debit card.

For either of these two methods be sure to enter the pin number for yourself if the keypad is user friendly for you.

If not, and if you are presented with a touch screen, you need to request assistance at the service desk to ensure that your info is protected.

Chances are that the waiter may be very trust worthy but one never knows who is watching from another table.

Privacy protection

Happy New Year everyone!

Paying at the supermarket or at any type of store

Usually there are three methods of payment and you should probably choose the one that best suits you.

  1. Via cash: Make sure that when you open your wallet that you do not open it up too wide so that prying eyes could see or read what you have in it.

  1. Via credit card: Here is where you need to ensure that when you enter your pin number that you do it yourself.

Chances are that the helpful cashier or sales person would be willing to help but better be safe than sorry.  Make sure to ensure that you cover the screen or the keypad so that no one can see what you are entering.

  1. Using your debit card. This is probably the most risky of the three methods in that you would need to enter more info than in option 2. Not just your pin number, but the type of account that you are withdrawing from.

Chances are that the cashier or sales rep could be counted on to keep your info private but if you are concerned then it is probably best to take a trusted person along with you when you go shopping.

Be sure to destroy all of your receipts when you arrive home so that they do not get into the wrong hands.
