CELA / NNELS

Tuesday March 30, 2021, 7:00 PM Eastern/4:00 PM Pacific:

Thanks to your advocacy, the Government of Canada’s funding for accessible reading materials has been restored for this year.  We invite you to join Laurie Davidson, Executive Director of CELA and Kevin Millsip, Executive Director of NNELS for an information session about what this funding reprieve means, and the next steps in the process.

(NOTE) Please register in advance to receive a link to the meeting. Not a CCB GTT meeting https://cnib.cmail19.com/t/i-l-mhythg-uuhilhitt-r/

Background: In the Fall Economic Statement the Government of Canada reduced funding for accessible book production and distribution by $1 million over each of the next 4 years until it was completely withdrawn by 2024-2025. Thanks to the advocacy of our users and stakeholders, we have been given a reprieve for this coming budget year.

What’s Next: While we appreciate the reprieve, NNELS and CELA are committed to advocating for a long term funding solution that fully recognizes the need for accessible reading materials.  We are working together alongside our colleagues in the publishing industry to develop a proposal for future conversations with the government. Join our info session to learn more.

Please note: The session will be recorded and made available to those who cannot attend the live event.

A French language session will be scheduled on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
